Calle dei Frati, Noon Today

  1. A chap with the same hat was in the same spot when Google went by! There could be two reasons why you have posted this photo, Steve: Calle dei Frati being almost deserted at noon (any day); the sun not shining at noon in Venice. You are looking at the south side of the street, which would be in shadow at noon, anyway, but it does look as though it is a dull day.

    1. Strange coincidence, but I don't think it's quite the same hat, Bert. I actually have no particular reason to have taken and posted this image, aside perhaps from liking where he's positioned in the very obtuse angle made by the walls, the colors, and the sweep of the wall and paving stones away from him.

  2. I thought it was posted to show the horrendous graffiti, although in this case it does add to a good photo. Perhaps having just visited Japan, I am extra-sensitive to defacement of public areas.

    1. I was going to mention the admirable groups of Venetian residents, Victoria, who periodically take it upon themselves to clean as much of the graffitti in the city as they can--though they can't possibly get to all of it, nor keep up with it. In the absence of city funding for such needed projects they really are wonderful and much appreciated. But then I just couldn't bring myself to write anything of yet another of the many problems afflicting the city about which the mayor and city council do pretty much nothing, so I wrote nothing at all. There are only so many problems I can stand to write about... But those resident volunteers really do deserve praise and thanks.
